Do I need a Referral for an Assessment?

• No, no referral is required.

Are Medicare Rebates Available for Assessments?

• No, unfortunately you are not able to claim Medicare rebates for Assessments, however a GP Mental Health Care Plan can be used for follow-up sessions.

Are Private Health Rebates Available for Assessments?

• Some private health funds will cover some aspects of assessment, please contact your health fund directly to check your cover.

Can I See You For Ongoing Therapy?

• Whilst our books are currently closed for ongoing therapy clients, a limited number (generally up to 4) appointments following your assessment may be available to help develop strategies and explore what your Autism and/or ADHD diagnoses (or not) means for you.

What Can I Use The Report For?

• A formal diagnosis of Autism or ADHD means that you are able to apply for reasonable adjustments and accommodations at your place of work or study.
• A diagnosis also gives you protections under the Disabilities Discrimination Act (1992).
• Many people find that formal confirmation about their neurotype and the way their brain works provides relief, self understanding and compassion, and self acceptance.

If I’m Diagnosed with ADHD Can You Prescribe Medication?

• No, medical doctors (Psychiatrists) are the only practitioners who can prescribe ADHD medication to adults in Australia.
• Please note that different Psychiatrists have different procedures they follow to diagnose ADHD and potentially prescribe medication. Whilst some Psychiatrists will use a comprehensive ADHD assessment report and diagnosis from a Psychologist as part of their decision making, other clinicians may prefer to conduct their own full assessments independent of any previous assessment the client has undertaken.

If I’m Diagnosed with Autism will I Get NDIS Funding?

• Psychologists can diagnose Autism, and a diagnosis of Autism Level 2 or 3 may mean that you are eligible for support under the NDIS. However, please note that the brief and/or comprehensive report/s and confirmation of diagnosis (if appropriate) I can provide will form *part* of your NDIS application, and other assessments and/or confirmation of diagnosis (for example by an Occupational Therapist or a GP) will be needed in order to have a diagnosis potentially accepted by the NDIA and funding provided by NDIS. 
• I will always do my best to provide evidence for an NDIS application, but as NDIS decision making processes are out of my control I cannot guarantee that you will receive NDIS funding.

How Do the Appointments Take?

• The initial appointment is approximately 60 minutes
• After your intake session you will be sent several questionnaires to complete before the assessment session. 
• Your assessment session/s (usually one session for and ADHD or Autism assessment, and two sessions for a combined assessment) generally last/s around 2 hours, but we can take breaks and take our time. 
• The feedback session, where your report and results are discussed, takes about 50 minutes.

Do You Need Information From Other People?

• Ideally we ask that someone who knew you as a child give information either through questionnaires or a brief interview. If there is nobody able to do this we can discuss other ways to get childhood information if we need it (whilst ideal, it is not always necessary).
